Chef/owner Luciane was born and raised in Brazil, Porto Alegre. She left in 1987 to live and travel around Europe, working in numerous restaurants as way of making a living. She then moved to Hawaii for two years to further explore life, all the while learning different cuisines. In 1992, she finally settled and married in New York City. In 1994, unable to get a job due to her pregnancy, she decided to open Cafe Colonial, a small cafe with great food.

Cafe Colonial has grown and matured into a beautiful restaurant. The food reflected her origins in Brazil, her travels through Europe and her passion for Hawaiian, Caribbean and latin food. Cafe colonial CLOSED in May 25th 2010! It was a great journey of 15 and half years but the time has come to depart. I no longer live in NYC, the commute was hard, I separated in 2007 and my lease was up in 2010. I choose to close and start fresh in NJ!! Thank you everyone. Not everyone was happy with cafe colonial but nobody runs a great business without been loved by many.... See you in NJ. Please e mail me! Lucianegilann@yahoo.com
